Silvertop Quarry, could be expanded if planning permission is granted by Carlisle City Council.
An application has been submitted on behalf of Thompsons of Prudhoe for an extension to the site, which would be 2.08 hectares in size.
The proposal is to extract 230,000 cubic metres (600,000 tonnes) of limestone over a three-year time period and the land will then be restored to an appropriate landform using a small quantity.
As part of this proposal a restoration scheme has been included for the whole site, to demonstrate how it will be restored in a comprehensive manner.
The scheme involves the retention of the existing highway access, weighbridge and wheel wash.
In particular, the proposed extension would not result in any additional vehicles on the public
